Wishes without Candles

Last year, both of us dreamed that we would be spending the next new year together despite our lack of knowledge whether it would come true, or not.

But we broke up before we could make some of the to-do checks on our list done.

Funny how fate loves to play with our teeny tiny human lives, right?

Throughout your absence, I learned that nobody would be able to measure up to the standard you have set, for me. Nobody would be able to match the energy I used to receive from you. And nobody would be able to make me fall hard like how I fell for you.

You got me on a hook I could not shake off. I could not be free of you and your shadows. Funny how I could look at the rain and immediately thought of you. You became something I associate with a lot of trivial things. Or, should I say, our things?

One day I came to a realization that I loved you still and that the feelings I harbored for you were bigger than I thought they were. The memory of you haunted me to the point that I longed for you at 3 AM.

Some people say that 3 AM is the witching hour and for as long as I could remember, 3 AM used to be OUR hour, too. Perhaps, it is true that I was bewitched and enchanted by none other than you.

I may not be a huge believer in a Higher being. But you, are a blessing that was sent to me, Finn Zieglerstein. And I will be forever grateful for your presence.

Here is to a new year we are greeting in a few hours. A new journey we have got to find out. We have 365 days to paint with new memories. And I am glad that it is you, the person whom I will be spending my new year with.

New wishes are coming, and these ones will be said out loud without any candle to blow. Yet, they will be just as magical.

Forever yours,

Dalton Morningstar.
